FANNIE LOU SPENCE-LEAKE, 48, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Methodist University Hospital. Born on March 29, 1960, to Robert and Alice Spence in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was reared in the mountains of east Tennessee, where she received her primary education. Her spiritual education was under the tutelage of her grandfather, the late Rev. Samuel R. Spence at St. John Baptist Church in Chattanooga. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, her Master of Science from Tennessee State University in Audiology and her Doctor of Audiology from Central Michigan State University. Fannie worked for the University of Tennessee, Department of Otolaryngology for 21 years, and was a member of Unity Christian Center. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Earl Leake; one son, John Robert Leake, and one step-daughter, Nordeya (Calvin) Lockhart; her parents, Robert and Alice Spence; two sisters, Paula (Geno) Spence-Evans and Rhonda Spence, both of Memphis;threebrothers, Harold (Cindy) Spence of Atlanta, Georgia, Robert (Dorchelle) Spence, Jr. of Memphis, and Reginald Spence of Baltimore, Maryland; two stepsisters, Terri Spence and Rosalyn Spence, and one stepbrother, Langston Spence, all of Chattanooga; her mother and father-in-law John and Doris Leake; one sister-in-law, Janice (LeYonn) Armstrong of Jackson, MS and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Visitation will be Monday, October 20 from 4-7 p.m. at M.J. Edwards Funeral Home, Stage Rd. Service will be held at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, 70 North Bellevue, on Tuesday, October 21 at 11 a.m. M.J. Edwards Funeral Home Stage Rd. Chapel 901-791-9700 |
